Effective
altruism

Effective altruism begins with a question: with limited resources, how do you do the most good? It is at once a field of research that looks for answers grounded in evidence and careful reasoning, and a community that puts those answers into practice.

The question matters, because differences in effectiveness are enormous. For the same money, some organizations help hundreds of times more people than others. What we choose therefore determines how many people we actually help.

People involved in effective altruism work on a range of problems: easily preventable diseases, the suffering of farmed animals, the risks associated with the development of artificial intelligence. They choose them by the same criteria: the scale of the problem, how neglected it is, and the chances of improving the situation.

EA UW is a group of University of Warsaw students who think about this together – reading, discussing, and looking for concrete ways to act.
